DSV Group Poland: Satisfactory results in a tough year

19-03-2010

International transport and logistics group DSV announced the 2009 financial results. Despite the global economic downfall, the figures are positive.
DSV activities were affected by the decreasing demand for TSL services and the fluctuating currency- and freight-rates. Integrating ABX Logistics, the company acquired in late 2008, was another factor. Nevertheless, the board sees the results as satisfactory. Total income of DSV Group exceeded 36 billion Danish kroner (DKK)  and the operating profit EBITA came to 1.7 billion DKK. In 2009, DSV Air & Sea be-came the most profitable division, with 56% of the Group’s EBITA.
For the first time DSV published the environmental impact assessment, based on the aggregated 2008 transport data. The Group’s carbon imprint amounted to 2.5 mil-lion tons –  59% attributed to DSV Road, 38% to DSV Air & Sea, and the remaining 75,000 tons generated by the offices, terminals, and warehouses. Since road transport remains the main source of emissions, DSV Road aimed to curb its impact on the environment. Thanks to the systematic fleet renewal and the pressure on subcontractors to reduce fuel consumption the carbon emission per kilometer dropped by more than 20% in 2009 compared to 2005.
The operating profit EBITA of DSV Group Poland topped 26 million PLN, outperforming the budget by more than 6 million PLN thanks in most part to the extremely high profitability of DSV Road. The air and ocean transport slowdown resulted in a temporary drop in DSV Air&Sea figures but restructuring and intensive sales efforts helped gain momentum in the second half of the year. The warehouse logistics division DSV Solutions has been hit strongest by the crisis, ending 2009 slightly in the red. However, effective reorganization and new contracts justify ex-pecting growth in 2010.
