Impact of Foreign Direct Investment on the Polish economy

THE NORDIC COUNTRIES ARE ONE OF THE LARGEST INVESTORS IN POLAND ACCORDING TO A NEW REPORT SUMMING UP THE CONTRIBUTION OF FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT (FDI) TO THE POLISH ECONOMY

Over the past 25 years Poland has attracted an average of PLN 26 billion per year through FDI. The current value of FDI in Poland exceeds PLN 712 billion.

The influx of Foreign Direct Investment is one of the most important triggers which boost the Polish economy - it accelarates consumption and investment demand, enhances productivity of companies and their employees as well as increases remunerations and decreases unemployment. Furthermore, FDI are the most effective conveyor of new, more effective technologies and innovations as well as the fastest way to engage national companies into the globalised economy.

On the 1st of March during a conference which was held in the the Ministry of Development the report "The impact of Foreign Direct Investment - contribution to the Polish economy in the past quarter century" was presented. The report had been prepared by Polityka Insight in cooperation with 14 bilateral chambers of commerce operating in Poland, including SPCC. It summarizes the most important information on foreign direct investment in Poland by sector, direction and scale. The report also discusses the benefits of FDI for Polish companies such as greater productivity and better position in the global value added-chains. The positive influence on society is also mentioned among the benefits - increased employment, wages, investments in human capital or additional state revenue.

The report confirms that Scandinavian companies are the 6th largest investor in Poland and they are the 3rd largest group of foreign companies present on the Polish market. They are also one of the most important trade partners for Poland - in 2015 the total value of trade exchange with the Nordic countries amounted to EUR 20,9 mln. Scandinavia remains in the top three destinations of Polish exports and in the top five of Polish imports.
