New rich oil finds off the Norwegian coast

8-09-2009

Norwegian energy group StatoilHydro and Sweden's Lundin have made new discoveries of oil and gas off the coast of Norway.

StatoilHydro discovered oil and gas some 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) from the Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea. The Norwegian giant estimates the find amounts to between 13 and 31 million barrels of oil and between 1 and 2 billion cubic metres of natural gas. StatoilHydro holds a 40.85-percent stake in the exploitation licence together with three other companies.  Italy's Eni holds 29.4 percent, Norwegian state-owned company Petoro holds 19.95 percent and the American group ExxonMobil has 9.8 percent.
Another discovery of oil in the North Sea was made by Lundin. Neither the size if it nor the usage have been determined. Swedish company Lundin holds a 50-percent stake in the exploration licence together with Wintershall and RWE Dea, which hold 30 and 20 percent respectively.
