Volvo Polska Sp. z o.o.: More hybrid buses in Polish cities

30-08-2017

Volvo Poland will provide two hybrid buses for the Municipal Transport Company in Świerklaniec.

PKM Świerklaniec has completed the bid for the delivery of two hybrid city buses by selecting Volvo. According to the tender specification, the buses are to be powered by diesel and electric power, to recover the power needed to drive the electric drive during braking, to be between 8.5 and 10.7 meters in length and accommodate at least 60 passengers, 25 percent of which seated. In addition, they must be equipped with two seats for disabled passengers, with low floors.

These parameters are fulfilled by the Volvo 7900 Series urban buses. They are powered by electric power when starting and stopping. At 20 km / h, they switch to diesel power. They are equipped with batteries, an electric motor and a small diesel engine. Batteries are charged when the engine is braking, and the bus does not require additional charging infrastructure. Buses of this type use 30 to 40 percent less fuel and emit from 40 to 50 percent less exhaust gas compared to conventional diesel buses. They are also very quiet, and their interior can be configured according to the needs of the user.

Volvo hybrid buses will be delivered to PKM ┼Üwierklaniec within 150 days of the date of the order - directly from Wroc┼éaw's factory, where they are in serial production since 2010. Over 2,000 have been sold so far in more than twenty countries. In Poland, Volvo hybrid buses run in Wroc┼éaw, Sosnowiec, Inowroc┼éaw, Tarnowskie Góry and Warsaw.

It is worth mentioning that PKM Świerklaniec is the first urban public transport operator in Poland to use Volvo's hybrid city buses - the first four such vehicles were bought by the company in 2014.
