Scania Polska: o przyszłości transportu podczas Impact mobility rEVolution'18 w Katowicach

14-09-2018

Driving heavy goods vehicles in an integrated convoy is one of Scania's solutions presented by Mathias Carlbaum, vice president of Scania CV AB, at the Impact mobility rEVolution'18 event in Katowice. For two days representatives of the following industries: automotive, transport, new technologies, as well as public administration and scientific staff, had the opportunity to meet and discuss the future of intelligent mobility.

During his speech entitled “Truck platooning – future of highways” Mathias Carlbaum presented Scania's solutions for increasing transport efficiency. Driving in a convoy composed of heavy goods vehicles (platooning) is one of the elements of Scania's strategy for sustainable transport, which consists of three pillars: alternative fuels and electrification, energy efficiency and intelligent and safe transport.

When platooning in a convoy, driver assistance systems are used, including the optimization of the route and speed of the vehicle. These solutions ensure timely delivery and high transport efficiency. Platooning also improves traffic on the road and brings environmental benefits - thanks to lowering of air resistance, fuel consumption and a carbon footprint are reduced.

Additionally, due to the fact that the convoy is run only by the driver in the first vehicle, the drivers of the other trucks can perform administrative tasks at that time. In combination with more flexible regulations on the working time of the driver, this opens up the possibility of more frequent overnight stays in the home instead of in the cabin.

During the congress, two CNG vehicles were presented: the Scania Citywide 12LF bus, used daily in the streets of Tarnów and the Scania P340 waste collection vehicle.
