Stena Recycling Sp. z.o.o.: The first recycling station for the residents of Warsaw

Each Varsovian produces, on average, 360 kg of waste per year, at least 80% of which can be recycled! The new investment of Stena Recycling will enable the residents of Warsaw and neighbouring areas to recycle over 40 types of waste free of charge. STENA EKOSTACJA is being held under the patronage of the Embassy of Sweden and the opening of the facility under the patronage of the President of  Warsaw. Warsaw, 11th October 2012 - The very first recycling station in Warsaw, STENA EKOSTACJA, is created. All raw materials (PET bottles, cans, waste paper), electronic waste (RTV and white goods, telephones, fluorescent lamps, computers) and large-sized waste (furniture, scrap metal, tyres) as well as hazardous waste (toners, batteries, accumulators, aerosols) may be delivered to the facility free of charge and shall be recycled or processed in compliance with applicable standards and principles. The unwanted clothes handed over by people, the company passes on to the Polish Red Cross. STENA EKOSTACJA in an investment of Stena Recycling, a leading company in the field of total waste management and recycling. The facility can receive approximately 50 passenger cars within an hour. STENA EKOSTACJA has been built on the basis of the best Scandinavian experience in organising and maintaining waste collection points. The station is under the patronage of Staffan Herrstrom, the Ambassador of Sweden who officially opened it together with Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, the President of Warsaw, by cutting a ribbon made of waste paper. “STENA EKOSTACJA is a great example of Swedish environmental practices that combine good ecology and good economy. Warsaw is such a green and beautiful city. I sincerely hope that this opportunity to make it even greener and cleaner will be increasingly used by the inhabitants.” said the Ambassador of Sweden at the inauguration. In her speech, President of Warsaw Hanna Gronkiewicz Waltz, pointed out that the participation of private companies in creating the new system of maintaining order and cleanliness in communities is of great importance for the city and shows that the companies share responsibility for the environment. During the great opening of STENA EKOSTACJA the electrowaste was collected. The money from the collection will be dedicated to the Our Earth Foundation’s project supporting child welfare centres. The performance of the Recycling Band playing on instruments made of waste was an interesting part of the event. Stena Recycling will also run an educational programme within the investment area. A special showroom, where the concept of recycling will be explained by the use of specific examples, has been created in STENA EKOSTACJA. Some simple ideas for environmental home solutions will be presented in cooperation with IKEA as well, which may help everyone to manage resources better e.g. by correct waste segregation or use of recycled materials or energy saving LED light bulbs.  www.stenarecycling.pl
