26-05-2015

With the ability to coordinate our efforts at the global level, we can provide the necessary support to this project, needed to handle the most demanding shipments to destinations all over the world. Our services will include deliveries, often in collaboration with the governmental organizations, to areas often affected by war or natural disasters – says Mads Olsen, Branch Manager DSV Projects.

Ikea Foundation has been involved in this innovative project since it’s very beginning, by creating the shelter design based on the simplicity of installation, known to everyone from Ikea stores. The IKEA Foundation donated EUR 3 million in grants to Better Shelter for product development during the period from 2012 to 2014. Flat-pack solution was a common idea of all parties involved in Better Shelter project development.

Selecting a provider of comprehensive logistics services to handle such a complex project was preceded by a very meticulous tendering process. Global reach and vast experience of DSV Solutions, especially in the area of complex comanufacturing processes, were the key elements that prevailed on choosing our partner for Refugee Housing Unit project – says Anders Karlund, Global Projects Manager Better Shelter.

Participation in this initiative will enable DSV Solutions to become a part of the project, which aims to provide a safe home for refugees from around the world, giving them the chance to of decent living conditions and security.

As a logistics operator, we are extremely proud to support this project. Its results will serve people whose difficult life situation was often forced on them by politics, armed conflicts and other local conditions. It is worth noting that this project is characterized by an unprecedented scale of responsibility and by that I don’t only mean the necessity of achieving quality objectives. Imagine a situation in which the complete kit home is handled in a military airport, transported in convoys and finally goes to a family who has spent the last few months in dramatically difficult conditions. Delivery of such shelter for them can often mean an ability to function. DSV Solutions role is to ensure that at the time of delivery, their flat-paced home is complete and that the package isn’t missing any bolts, or any other structural elements, crucial to the success of the entire project - says Maciej Walenda, CEO DSV Solutions Poland.
