On October 25th , the master of black and white photography will inaugurate Leica Gallery Warsaw in a new exhibiting venue in the city center – MYSIA 3.
Jacob Aue Sobol is one of the most renowed contemporary photographers.
Besides his stunning photo projects, he is also well known for his unconventional approach to photo shooting process. In 1999 he gave up civilization, settling in Greenland, to lead a life of a hunter and fisherman. At the same time he preserves thick aura of confidence, that emerges as an effect of his common experiences with people he meet and photographes. Pictures that emerge from this peculiar way of artistic work, guaranteed him international recognition in fist years of his photographic activity.
Jacob Aue Sobol represents the world’s elite of photographers of his generation. He is a member of legendary Magnum Photos agency, that was established over 50 years ago by Henri Cartier-Bresson. Sobol won prizes such as World Press Photo and Leica European Publishers Award. His work was exhibited in Paris, New York, Berlin, Tokyo and over 20 top galleries around the world. Each of his projects gathers prices and recognition: “Sabine” - effect of his stay in Greenland, “I, Tokyo” or “The Gomex-Brito Family”, project from Guatemala.
In Leica Gallery new interiors Sobol will present his latest project, photographic chronicle of his journey by the Transsiberian train: “I’ve never been here before – Russia, Mongolia, China – everythting is terra incognita. I wonder if the connection between people and places will feel different considering the fact that I will pass every tree, every house and every village on my way to Beijing? I want to meet people, to connect with the cities, to make the places mine, even if it’s just for a short while”.
Opening of the exhibition will be crowned of the inauguration of the new gallery spot. Leica Gallery Warsaw, after almost four year of artistic activity in Blue City Center, opens its new exhibiting venue, that consists of over 300 square meters of exhibiting space, Leica Store and library devoted to photo-publishing. Jacob Sobol will open the exhibitions and gallery in the flesh, as also he will take part in the supporting events.
Next exhbitions in new Leica Gallery Warsaw venue are: “Irreversible” by Maciek Nabrdalik, “Stand by” by SPUTNIK PHOTOS and – on January 2014 – big exhibition of Kacper Kowalski’s aerial photography.
