Property tax increase in Denmark

25-08-2009

A new agreement between local councils and the Liberal-Conservative government, supported by the Danish People’s Party, may enact a provision allowing councils to raise property taxes by up to 7 percent in 2010 – an average of 600 kroner, according to Danske Bank.
But in areas where the property tax rate is already high, such as Hørsholm and Frederiksberg, taxes could increase by several thousand kroner as a result of the hike.
The move was initiated primarily because there had been a economic lag in property taxes in recent years due to the government’s tax freeze.
The increase is the highest permitted since 2003.
