Cheaper electricity for the poorest

24-05-2010

The Ministry of Economy developed a draft of an act on helping the poor, who will pay lower receipts for electricity by ca. 1/3. Ca. PLN 130 million from the national budget will be provided for this kind of support. The draft stipulates that the persons collecting financial benefits from the social assistance will pay only for the energy over some determined threshold of usage. The level of the threshold shall depend on the number of persons in the particular household. E.g. the threshold for one-person households equals 900 kilowatt hours per annum, for those which consist of two up to four persons – 1250 kWh per annum. The Energy enterprises will receive on the other hand a discount, which will compensate for their costs.
