Penalty sanctions for offences against environment

20-09-2010

On September 14 the government accepted the assumptions for the draft amendment among others to the Penal Code in connection to the necessity of implementation of the so-called penal directive to the Polish law. The directive binds the EU member states to introduce a system of penalties for offences against the environment. Thus, the hitherto list of offences against the environment will be extended and made more severe and the list will e.g. include illegal possession of species of animals and plants which are under protection.
After having gone through the whole legislation process, including the parliament’s acceptance, the amendments will become binding within 30 days after their announcement.
