Anti-tobacco regulations getting stricter

On November 15, 2010 the new legislation is coming into force which is to change the Act on Protection of Health against Consequences of Using Tobacco and Tobacco Products. The new regulations are to extend the list of public places where smoking will be prohibited. For the first time, the list will include i.a. food and entertainment establishments, means of public transportation, premises for passengers’ services, stops for means of public transportation, premises of sport facilities and publicly accessible children playgrounds.
The new legislation also introduces the definition of a smoking room. A smoking room means premises which are constructed in such a way that they are separated from other premises and passageways, which are appropriately designated, serve for tobacco products’ smoking only and which are equipped with mechanical ventilation or filtration system.
The Act will further prohibit retail sale of tobacco products in self service system except for duty-free shops.
Other minor changes relate to rules of promoting and advertising tobacco products.
