Officials will pay for their wrong decisions

10-01-2011

The Sejm has accepted the act according to which civil servants will be financially liable for gross breaches of law during execution of their public powers. Any civil servant may be prosecuted if his/her action is culpable and the gross breach of law has been recognized with a proper judgment or administrative decision. Civil servants are also to be financially liable if pursuant to a judgment or a settlement the liable entity (e.g. the office employing the civil servant) has already paid the compensation for the damage caused during the execution of public powers which included a gross breach of law. The amount of compensation will amount to twelve times the monthly remuneration. The act will be directed to the Senate.
