Trade-union members better protected by the labour code

6-06-2011

On May 26 the Sejm accepted a change to the labour code pursuant to which an employee who enjoys protection under the provisions of the act on trade unions has the right to demand to be reinstated to work in case of an unlawful termination notice of an employment contract concluded for a definite period of time or for the time of performance of the particular work. Until now such employees could only claim compensation.

After the change becomes binding the enhanced protection of the abovementioned category of employees will be the same as protection already binding for pregnant employees, employees on the maternity leave, or employees-fathers who are upbringing a child during the maternity leave period.

The act was passed on to the President and the Marshal of the Senate on May 27, 2011.
