Scania Polska: A milestone in electrification

16-09-2020

Scania launches a range of electric trucks. This is a key stage in the process of leading a change in the implementation of a sustainable transport system. Plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles will be used primarily for urban work, incl. in distribution transport.

This is an important step in the development of Scania, which already has extensive experience in the production of premium vehicles running on diesel and renewable fuels. In the coming years, Scania will expand its range of electrified vehicles to cover all applications, including long-distance and construction.

- We are proud to announce the beginning of Scania's long-term commitment to electrification. In the coming years, we will be rolling out the entire range of electric vehicles annually and reorganizing production to this end. Of particular importance is the fact that in a few years' time we will also introduce electric long-haul vehicles suitable for fast charging during the mandatory 45-minute breaks for drivers, comments Henrik Henriksson, Scania President, and CEO.

The electrification of heavy commercial vehicle fleets is key to meeting the Paris Agreement commitments to limit global warming and keep the temperature rise below 1.5 ° C. Electric vehicles will be an increasingly attractive alternative for progress-oriented users. In an initial phase, Scania will develop and deploy hybrids and all-electric vehicles in collaboration with such customers.
The fully electric Scania truck is available with L and P cabs. The vehicle has a 230 kW (310 hp) electric motor and 165-300 kWh battery packs. Customers can choose sets of 5 or 9 batteries. The larger of them provides a range of up to 250 km on a single charge.

Likewise, the Scania plug-in hybrid - also available with L and P cabs. The vehicle can cover long distances with the combustion engine and up to 60 km with an electric motor operation where required. Combined with the use of renewable fuels, transport operators can make a significant contribution to climate protection.

Both types of drive: electric and hybrid, use Scania's modular system, and numerous components that have been tested and successfully used in the entire range of the brand's vehicles. Therefore, they ensure durability and reliability that are well known to customers.
