The key role of smart devices by 2030

Consumers expect technology to become more flexible and interactive by 2030, and that smart devices will enable them to make more proactive and even creative choices in many everyday situations.

The 10th edition of Ericsson's report (NASDAQ: ERIC) on 10 Hot Consumer Trends from ConsumerLab highlights consumer predictions about the roles that smart devices could assume in the future. Each of these roles can be seen as a new service area, opening up many opportunities for 5G service providers to gradually expand smart grids to their customers.

In line with Ericsson Research's vision, the development of artificial intelligence and mobile technology will enable intelligent devices to safely communicate in the networks of the future.

Based on many years of research on global trends, ConsumerLab's 10 Hot Consumer Trends 2030 report presents the expectations and predictions of 50 million respondents in 15 major cities.

In the survey, respondents assessed 112 concepts of smart devices connected to the internet, ranging from human-centered to more rational ones. The result is a list of ten roles that smart devices connected to the internet can take over in everyday life by 2030. Each trend in the report represents a specific role that such devices could assume.

Dr. Michael Björn, Head of Research Agenda, Ericsson Consumer & IndustryLab, and author of the report says: “I was surprised that consumer expectations for smarter connectivity are higher than for any other type of internet-connected smart device. Trend Connectivity Gofer includes predictions that devices will intelligently match to any signals using cellular, Wi-Fi and constant connectivity, as well as smart signal locators that guide users to optimal coverage, even in congested areas. ”

"This demonstrates the ability of 5G network service providers to gradually extend smart grids to their customers to include a whole range of new services, and each of the device roles we present in this report can be viewed as a whole new service area."

“For example, the Community Bots trend highlights the role that device intelligence could take on in providing much-needed services to the community. Explainers come up with the idea that all connected devices must be able to explain themselves to users, and Sustainability bots focus on the increased need to get intelligent climate advice in a specific place in the future. '

"What all these potential services have in common is that they rely on intelligent communication between devices, which brings the network to the fore even more than it is today."
