Cargotec celebrates the opening of its new multi-assembly unit (MAU) in Stargard Szczecinski. The new facility is part of Cargotec's global supply network, and it is ideally positioned close to customers. The MAU will support the production of a wide range of Cargotec equipment.

Construction of the new MAU commenced in June 2009 and was completed on time in May of this year. "We are very proud of this new state-of-the-art facility that boasts the latest advances in sustainable production technology, processes and quality. For example, we have chosen a carbon dioxide neutral wood pellet heating solution for the production facility," says Mikael Mäkinen, Cargotec President and CEO. The whole construction project was carried out in close cooperation with local authorities and partners, thus also supporting Cargotec's activities to promote the well-being of the Baltic Sea.

The new facility is situated on 41 hectares in Stargard Szczecinski in Northwestern Poland, approximately 60 km from the Baltic Sea coast. The location offers excellent logistical connections with superb access to land and water transport routes within Europe. "The location of the facility helps reduce transportation costs and makes our operations more flexible. We can now respond even more efficiently to the rising customer demand in Central Europe," says Axel Leijonhufvud, Executive Vice President, Cargotec Supply.

The new MAU plays a key role in Cargotec's long-term supply strategy. "Ultimately, a competitive supply organisation based on local presence, high efficiency and flexibility supports Cargotec's vision of becoming the world's leading provider of cargo handling solutions," states Axel Leijonhufvud. Cargotec has operations in more than 120 countries and production in 18 locations worldwide.
