Maersk leads shipping industry developing fuels from waste

A.P. Moeller Maersk (MAERSKB) A/S, the world’s biggest container ship owner, is leading its industry in developing biofuels made from organic waste that could cut its carbon emissions and reduce a $6 billion-a-year fuel bill. More information HERE

Novo Nordisk  leads in sustainability rankings

Novo Nordisk has topped Corporate Knights magazine’s annual Global 100 rankings of leaders in sustainability. The Danish pharmaceuticals company was followed by Brazil’s Natura Cosmeticos, Norway’s Statoil (last year’s top-ranked company), Danish biotech firm Novozymes and ASML Holding, a Dutch supplier to the semiconductor industry. Nordea Bank publishes a children's book

The story about two Norwegian mooses preparing for winter was published within Nordea CSR programme. The book was written by Olga Wicher, Nordea employee from Poznan.

Ragn-Sells Polska opens Nordic Walking Eco Routes

Ragn-Sells Polska Sp. z o.o. , a company with Scandinavian roots, puts its strong focus on environmental protection and education in this field. Therefore, as the first operator in Lubuskie, educates people through the Nordic walking routes, which have been drawn up in collaboration with local and international companies in Bogdaniec, near Gorzów Wielkopolski. Join the Hipocrates Run organized by the Medicover Foundation

The aim of this year`s  run is fund raising for the nurse offices equipment in schools. You can register your run (in a group not smaller than 5 people) and upload the results on the webiste www.bieghipokratesa.pl. Collecting money is possible via portal www.domore.pl.

IKEA Foundation gives £38 million to help Somali refugee crisis

IKEA Foundation will provide the biggest donation in the UNHCR (United Nations High Commission on Refugees) 60 years history. Ikea’s donation will be used to expand a UN refugee complex in Dadaab, Kenya, that was first opened in the early 1990s and designed to hold 90,000 but which now holds 440,000 refugees, including 150,000 who have arrived in the last few months. Also, IKEA Foundation donation to UNICEF will enable UNICEF to provide treatment to 130,000 children to improve their chances of survival.

Electrolux – Vac from the Sea

One of the latest sustainability projects by Electrolux is the ”Vac from the Sea” initiative.  The initiative consists of Electrolux unveiling five vacuum cleaners made from plastic waste collected from the world's oceans. Electrolux aims to raise public awareness of the issue by gathering plastics from marine environments from a number of sites in the world. The collected plastic is sorted, washed, processed and used to produce a limited number of concept vacuum cleaners. The ambition is also to inspire consumers and industry to increase recycling efforts.  More information HERE

Tetra Pak – a commitment to reduce emission of CO2

The company introduces a new environmental program, supporting production of packaging only from recycled materials, which will help in reducing and after some time complete eliminating waste from production process. Together with introduction of this program, CO2 emission will drop by 40%. More information HERE

H&M – gradually increases the amount of organic cotton in clothing production

Last year, H&M Company used about 15thous. tons of ecological cotton, exceeding 3 times a previously estimated amount. An increase in consumption of this kind of cotton by 77% compared to 2009 makes H&M one of the largest recipient of ecological cotton in the world. More information HERE

IKEA – awarded website www.dlanatury.pl

The website dlanatury.pl is a valuable source of information on how to manage a household sustainably through ecological home arrangement.
On the website you may find an animated guidebook of eco-friendly driving and a special calculator which shows a reduction of costs which you get thanks to changing lightbulbs from traditional to energy-saving. This initiative was awarded in FOB Report 2009.

Kinnarps -  receives a diploma for climate initiative

Kinnarps has received a diploma for its participation in CSR Western Sweden's climate initiative. Kinnarps chose to join the initiative just before the climate conference in Copenhagen in 2010 and has worked with five different environmental challenges to reduce the climate impact.
